about The Government and Telstra reached an agreement on 20 June regarding the roll-out of the NBN network announcing that NBN Co would be required to be the wholesale supplier of last resort for fibre connections in greenfield developments from 1 January 2011. In summary this means that developers will only be required to fund the cost of pit and pipes for fibre connections and NBN Co will be responsible for all other costs for fibre deployment including backhaul. This UDIA Outlook event will dispel some of the myths surrounding the new National Broadband Network and provide information to developers about their rights, discuss who will be affected under the new legislation and provide a forum for all to openly ask questions of industry representatives. Joined by Angus Ramsay, Project and Development Manager, RCL Group, our panel of experts are: - Phillip Mason, Assistant Secretary Network Policy & Regulation Division, Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy - Phil Smith, General Manager, Carrier Relations & Regulatory, Opticomm Co Pty Ltd - Brad Wynter, Manager Organisation Improvement, City of Whittlesea Seats are limited, so avoid the disappointment and register now! what Geelong Chapter Luncheon
where Captain Room, Geelong Football Club, Kardinia Park, Geelong
when Friday 25 June 2010
about UDIA (Vic) Geelong Chapter luncheon is scheduled for Friday 25th June 2010. More and more people are choosing to move to, or stay in, Geelong.  The Urban Development Program reveals that there is five years of supply with a PSP in place in the Geelong Region, although there is 20 years of total supply.  Many developers in the Geelong Region are facing tough times getting finance approved for their developments, even those with good track records. The looming shortage of developable supply in Geelong and the real shortage of finance is creating major uncertainty, creating the potential problem of fewer homes on the market and worsening affordability. How will the land supply issues in Geelong be addressed?  Where are the new development fronts in Greater Geelong?  How do financiers choose between projects? What difficulties do developers face in securing land and finance?  How can we catch up and then ensure an orderly release of land at affordable prices into the future? A panel including Cr Andrew Katos, Planning and Finance, City of Greater Geelong Rob Burgess, State Manager—Victoria, Amex Corporation Pat Murnane, Manager, Bendigo Bank will discuss these burning issues for Geelong.

what UDIA Outlook March Event
where Studio 3, Level 3, Crown Entertainment Complex, 8 Whiteman Street Southbank
when 6:00pm - 9:00pm
about The year 2009 will go down in history as the year of the "GFC", which resulted in a short-lived dip for urban development in Australia. Melbourne's property sector has surged in the latter months of this year, seeing an increase in median house prices despite recent interest rate hikes introduced by, and independent of, the Reserve Bank. With our financial markets well and truly on the up and up what will 2010 bring for Victoria's property market? Analysts predict that Melbourne's current property boom will continue into 2010, increasing the median house prices in most Melbourne suburbs and fostering the ever-growing need for affordable housing. With Australia's current population of 22 million expected to reach 35 million by 2049, how will our Government and the industry work together to begin to tackle the housing shortage next year? What effects will the increased interest rates and the probable end to government grants for first home buyers have on our State's property market? We invite you to join our four leading experts in the Economics, Marketing, Developing and Finance sectors, as they explore the outlook of 2010 in an informative and interactive panel session. What happened in 2009, where are we today and what lies ahead for Melbourne 2010 and beyond?

about New Development Opportunities in the Post-GFC Property Markets Our guest speakers at our upcoming Research Breakfast are Bradley Papworth and Robert Papaleo. The onset of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) was the unexpected trigger that shocked commercial property values back down to more realistic levels from their unsustainable highs.    Despite the predictions of massive house price falls caused by the GFC, residential property has largely withstood the challenges whilst the residential land market has successfully reshaped itself to meet the market.   Much has already happened in property markets but how far along the path to recovery for new development are we?   The factors that will drive new development across the commercial and residential sectors will be explored.  In addition, the latest findings of the National Land Survey Program will be released (which perhaps may bring the best news of all for now) to indicate the health and performance of the residential land market across Australian cities.  Bradley will also deliver an assessment of the current and expected conditions in the Melbourne land market.

Tuesday 1st
what Future Shape of Melbourne Education Forum
where The Como Melbourne, Gagarney Suite, Level 1, 630 Chapel Street South Yarra
when 5pm - 8pm
about Despite Melbourne’s massive growth, many thousands of people need to live close to the city. So too will many of the predicted 70,000 newcomers who will be coming to Melbourne each year and who will need to or simply want to live in or around the city. But how can they do it? More to the point, how can the planners and decision makers prepare for those who are here now and the onslaught of those still to come. And, perhaps even more to the point, can they do it so that at least some of those homes remain affordable. It is a vexed and multifaceted problem and one that Federal and State Governments have attempted to cope with by allocating billions of dollars under the affordable housing program – but how should the money be spent and what can we learn, if anything, from what is happening overseas? A panel of experts, deeply involved in the affordable housing area, already have many of the answers and want to share them with you while at the same time listening to your views. We have brought them together for the next Future Shape of Melbourne forum when UDIA Victoria Executive Director Tony De Domenico will chair what promises to be a fascinating and enlightening evening of ideas and suggestion for what could be one of the most important issues to confront Melbourne in recent history. The speakers will include: 1. Anthony Hardy – Director, Housing Registrar 2. Karina Sunk – Senior Associate / Manager, Roberts Day 3. Brett Gillan - General Manager Victoria, Sunland Group 4. Steve Pisani - National Demand Manager, James Hardie (direct from QLD) 5. Brett Blacklow - Director / Architect, Earth Spirit Home Pty Ltd (direct from QLD) It is your chance to have your say but, equally importantly, it is also a not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear what the experts have to say.
