The UDIA has written to the Minister for Planning and the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Innovation in relation to the duplication of approval processes between Federal and State Governments relating to native vegetation and other biodiversity issues, seeking a resolution to this problem.
The Department of Planning and Community Development released 4 new Practice Notes relating to Native Vegetation management and an amended Clause 52.16-2 of the Victoria Planning Provisions following approval by the Minister for Planning on 15 September 2008. The new Practice Notes together with the new Clause 52.16-2 provide a much clearer process for handling native vegetation issues. The most significant aspect is that a more strategic approach to handling native vegetation is highlighted, based on the three step, avoid, minimize or offset options for managing vegetation and that both planning authorities and landowners can prepare native vegetation precinct plans, enabling some time savings if a landowner does not wish to wait for a planning authority to undertake the work.
The final guidelines for the Housing Affordability Fund are attached. There appear to be opportunities for members to apply for funding both in a partnership (with and state or local government) or individually.
